Socks, More Socks, and a Poll

My Sockapalooza socks arrived!

Broadripple from knitty in Panda Cotton. They are so soft and silky, and this is a pattern I have looked at several times, but never made.

My pal was Sereknitty, and she also sent along some much-longed for Trekking XXL. Thanks so much--I am looking forward to wearing the socks once it's no longer 100 degrees every day and I start wearing socks again.

Now, for opinions. I started a new pair of Monkeys and they are patterning in the weirdest way. Big bands of pink alternating with bands of yellow and red stripes.

What do you think? Garish or gorgeous? I keep going back and forth on it myself, and I want to make this pair for a friend's birthday next week, so I need opinions, and I need them quick!

Oh! And a heads-up. I am editing the October edition of Yarnival, so start thinking about a post you may want to submit, or start composing that brilliant gem in your head, and watch this space for the submission call.

Hey, I'm knitting Broadripple right now, too! Only mine are in a rather vivid yellow/green combination. They are, shall we say, "visible."

I think I like the Monkey patterning. Will the color combination hold up when you get to the gussets or do you think the pooling/flashing might be too much? I'm rather bad at predicting these things and I like pooling so it would work for me. But, I know that some people don't care for it...

Well it doesn't bother me any, I like the way it is pooling/striping. So the best I can say is, if your friend doesn't like them, send them to me!
Ha!

Definitely not garish.

I'm going to be the odd man out. I think they're kind of garish.

I like the Monkey sock but I'm also kinda an oddball anyway. My only question is: Are you going to be able to get the second one to do something like that?

As for your Monkeys, I rather like the way they're knitting up.

Cute Broadripples! I am loving seeing what everyone got for their Sockapalooza socks!

I actually love the way the Monkeys are striping up!

I love your Sockapalooza pal socks :) How fun!

I also love those Monkeys!! Love the colorway, and I like the pooling!! The pair I'm working on kind of pool similarly, so maybe I'm biased.

I think the monkeys are great, I wouldn't change a thing.

Hmmm, I think you're definitely pooling. If you try going up or down just one needle size, it'll most likely go away. I had almost the exact same problem with a different yarn. I think I'd like it striped, but then, I've never been a fan of pooling yarn. However, I do think your knitting is lovely, and you're very sweet to knit such a nice gift! Good luck!

I think they actually kinda work. i bet you could totally rock them. ;)

I'm not a fan of the pooling, but I think the most important question is, what does your friend like? If you feel she's going to like them just go for it!

I like 'em! I say keep going. I really think they are pretty.

I think the pooling/striping makes them even more unique. I knit a pair of monkeys that did this, and I really liked how they turned out. I say go for it!

I like the way the socks are striping, but do you think it'll keep up for the rest of the sock? And for the second sock? That'd be my concern. But if it does pool consistently, I think it's kind of a fun look.

Possibly too late but: I think the socks are loud in an awesome kind of way. Then again, I see hand-knit socks as the perfect way to wear colors that I wouldn't otherwise consider wearing.

While on vacation I went into the local knitting store and the owner gave me a great piece of advise. "If you're not in love with the piece your working on, rip it out and make something else".
