Ideas Needed

I got my replacement skein from Piece of Beauty, and, while lovely in and of itself, it is a completely different dye-lot than my surviving skein.

So...any suggestions on what I can do with about 700 yards of coordinating, but non-matching fingering weight yarn, besides a pair of mismatched socks?

Maybe you could switch skeins every inch or so. You'd have a subtle striping within the pattern. I know that sounds like a real pain in the backside but I think it would look cool.

what Eric said... they actually recommend you alternate skeins every couple rows, when using handpainted yarns.

I did this on one sweater I made and it really isn't a pain. It's much easier that the switching you do for pirate hats...although not so exciting as watching skulls appear before your eyes:-)

You could make several pair of tiny socks if you know anyone little who would enjoy them. I imagine a skein would make 2 pairs of baby socks... some lucky baby would love them..

Some lacey shawl?
Otherwise, what Eric and Sue say.

That sure is pretty yarn!

Clapotis maybe? Those colors would look great, you could switch skeins every other row.

Definitely switch balls every other row. It's not really a pain and then you won't be able to tell it's two different dye lots.
I also like the idea of a clapotis or a lacy mini shawl.

I'd say a shawl, maybe a feather and fan pattern so that the ridges are like stripes?

Love your office -- I moved into mine two years ago and haven't looked back since. And ... I keep a basket with a simple project near the phone for those endless client calls!

IT's not a free pattern and I don't know if you are a shawl person but I love the Leaf Lace Shawl from Fiber Trends. It's available in two sizes and in three different weights.

I'd say make a shawl with it. The Swallowtail shawl from Interweave (last summer) or the Leaf Lace or Basketflower (flower basket?) shawl. Since they're triangular with slightly different edgings, the shade difference between the skeins can be incorporated into the pattern.
If you have 700 yds, actually, I'd also say just make two pairs of socks, you'll have enough in each skein for a pair, no? Lovely yarn, btw!
