Do Pomatomus(i?) and Frogs Mix?
They do if you're my skein of Cherry Tree Hill Supersock! I've tried this pattern twice now. The first time I ripped back from Row 2 of the pattern. The second time I got to Row 5 before it all fell apart. I think what's giving me problems are the yarnovers at the beginning of each needle. When I get to the yarnover in the middle, I don't have a problem. If anyone has any advice about how to better handle it, I'd appreciate it.
And if there's someone in Tulsa who has done this pattern and would like to give me a lesson, so much the better!
On the plus side, my STR was in my mailbox today, so that's exciting. And tempting. Gotta get the Poms done first!
And just for fun, a shot of a rosebush in my backyard, sort of in bloom.

Do you think knitting the pattern Magic Loop style would help? You could move the stitches around to whatever configuration you wanted, and never have a "beginning" to your needle.
Do you think you are dropping the first y/o? If you can be a little more specific, I might be able to help!
I'm about to start Pomatomus too-- and I'm scared. So I'll be making mistakes right along with you! Best of luck!!
I made it through the yos at the beginning of the needles by sliding the knitting along pretty quickly and making sure they didn't drop of the end...
I've used yos to start needles in many a shawl pattern, so that wasn't too bad.
If you forget, just pick it up in the next row...
C'mon... I know you can do it!
Aw, turn that frown upside down! You can do it no problem :) Just keep a count on your stitches, and if the yo drops, don't be afraid to just pick it back up. Good luck!!
Awww, I hope that you can get the hang of those dastardly yo's. I have to admit that when I looked at the pattern I was a little thrown by the instructions - looking forward to hearing how it goes.
Hmmmmmm. I seem to recall reading someone's blog out there that just arranged the stitches so that the yarn over wasn't at the beginning of the row anymore. You could re-do the chart if you wanted - just shift the far left row over to the position of the far right row. That way the yarn-over is the second stitch on the needle for the first half of the chart? This should work, but just make sure that when you're done the cuff, you rearrange the stitches to how they would be as if you'd followed the chart proper, and THEN do the rearrange as it shows in the pattern. Does that make sense? Probably not :)
I was going to make the same suggestion as Sue. If you are having a problem, just shift your BOR over a couple of stitches. You will have to modify the chart, but it should work.
You have my sympathies, Emma, I had to frog my Pomatomus this morning. Half way through the second pattern repeat I must have forgotten one yarnover at the end of a needle...
I am sure you won't find the pattern to difficult once you get the hang of it. The trick is, I think, to pay attention to yarnovers at the beginning and at the end of the needles.
Good luck!
i love how you posed the yarn on the mailbox ;) sorry to hear about the ripping!
Now I'm scared! I was going to use the Pomatomus pattern on my STR Ruby Slippers. Maybe I should rethink this. I do agree that sometimes it helps to shift the stitches around so difficult stitches are no longer on the ends of the needles. I do it all the time with other patterns. If you try it and it works, I hope you will post and let us all know.
I JUST started on the lace to pomatomus and using the BEST judgement I have EVER had, I forewent (?!?) knitting it on the plane back to dc. Once I start the chart again, I'll let ya know. :)
Lots of luck finding a way to make that sock work. And hurray for new yarn in your mailbox. Do you know what you will do with it?
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog. I'm looking forward to starting up this pair of socks again. And then the pair after that.
You commented on my blog (yay!)... and how did you know that I moved from Tulsa, OK just last year? Was it truly a coincidence? Say, do you know Stephanie? (Surely, all knitting lawyerly types in Tulsa know one another ;-))
I miss String! ...er, Fringe!... but there is a great knitting community here in New Haven, Connecticut - with TWO stitch n' bitch's per week... yikes!
I look forward to hearing your mastery of this pattern as I've got it in my TBK pile! Thanks for commenting on my blog - good luck!
Sorry I'm not in Tulsa, but if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask!
PS - does STR come in pre-wound balls now???
I sent you an email but you can also try doing the YO on row 12 at the beginning of the next needle and then just slide it back when you get to row 13. I think I tried that method a couple of times, too.
