Countdown to Vacation

Just trying to fit in one last post before I leave for vacation on Saturday. In case anyone's curious, my husband's parents take the whole family to Seagrove Beach on the Florida Panhandle every year. The past two years, we've stayed here:
It's a fabulous house--private swimming pool and elevator included! It's always very hard to leave at the end of the week.

So my Koigu socks are ready for their beach vacation.

And our iPods are snuggled into their brand new cozies for the trip, stacked up with the board games we're taking along for the trip. For mine, I used the sock yarn I dyed with Kool-Aid. I kind of just made up the pattern as I went along, but I think it turned out pretty well. For Paul's I used Koigu leftover from the wedding socks in a mini-Jaywalker pattern. The cozies only took a couple of hours each to complete, and are perfect!

I ordered some Alpaca Cloud from KnitPicks to make the Icarus shawl with. It arrived today, and it's beautiful. The pale blue has darker blues and purples mixed in; I think it will make a fantastic Icarus. I have everything required to get started, but I just feel kind of intimidated by the pattern.

So I won't be back until the 18th, and I'm going to miss reading everyone's blogs, seeing photos of works in progress and works completed. Hopefully I'll have lots of good beach pics to share when I get home, although with this stupid camera of mine, I'm not too sure!

Oh! I just want to say that I am sooo excited about the return of Rock Star on CBS. Although this year's concept is a bit cringe-inducing, the first performance show was promising, and I'm looking forward to the weeks ahead!

And if anyone knows any yarn shops along the Panhandle, be sure to let me know!

hi emma! thanks for commenting on my blog--it's nice to have some validation from strangers!!! your vacation sounds like it's going to be heavenly, and while you are gone, i am likely to read your whole archive, so expect more comments. i think it's cool that we have some project overlap here--i am making my first lace in preparation for that icarus shawl myself--and i am also going to make it from alpaca. coincidence?

your clapotis is lovely, btw. i killed myself making one of those for the knitting olympics back in february.

ok--shutting up now--have a wonderful trip!

Have a great vacation!

Icarus is a great project to start with. It's regularity is very reassuring at first. You'll be such a pro by the lace that you'll be really looking forward to the feather edging. The Knitpicks should work well.

Emma, hi, thanks for visiting my blog as well. Have a good vacation.

Your Clapotis is gorgeous by the way. What colorway in Shimmer did you use?

Happy vacation and knitting.

Have fun on your vacation! Don't let the Icarus pattern intimidate you...it's super easy, just keep a lifeline in case you lose count. :)

I have to agree with your thoughts on Rock Star. INXS seems to have the proper amount of cheese to handle a show like that, but Supernova just sounds kind of lame. Not that something like that would keep me from watching, of course. The first episode was worth watching, but I passed on the elimination round in favor of Grey's Anatomy. I have a feeling this will become the pattern. Great for knitting while watching, though.

that yarn is beautiful. I can't wait to see your shawl!!! Happy vacation. The place you'll be staying at is beautiful. Ever think of starting an "Adopt a knit blogger for vacation week program?"

Wow - what a vacation you will have - nice house! Sorry don't know of any yarn shops - but you must be sure to look in the phone book and report any findings!

LOVING Rock-Star as well. I agree with the SuperNova comment - but I guess they can do what they want.

I'm hoping for the Canadian :) Eventhough he's a little sassy.

Emma, there is a LYS in Ft Walton Beach, FL. I haven't been there since they moved into their new location. It is something like Yarn Garden. They have a few knit ins too. I'll try to find the link for you.
