Home Again

For those of you keeping track, I'm home from vacation. As always, we had a really good time relaxing in the sun, swimming in the ocean. Seems like this year we did less than usual, but ended up more exhausted at the end of the day. Maybe it's just that everyone's getting older.

I didn't get a whole lot of knitting done, although I did make it up to the gusset decreases on the first Koigu Jaywalker. Knitting on the beach is just all kinds of fun.

The house we stay in is right next to a protected dune area, so our stretch of the beach is practically deserted. There are only a few houses nearby, and our beach chairs were on the end, so it was very peaceful and private.

Last year, our vacation was cut short a few days because of a hurricane. I think a few of us were worried about the prospect of it happening again, but we needn't have been concerned. There was absolutely no rain the entire week, although the skies did cloud up threateningly a couple of times. We definitely lucked out, weather-wise!

We didn't spend all our time on the beach, however. We had dinner one night at Cafe 30-A, which is turning into a tradition, and for good reason. We made the trip into Seaside for some shopping and browsing. It's a very quaint little sea resort, full of pastel houses and overpriced shops. Seaside's always good for a quick walkthrough though.

And we took a ocean voyage on the Seablaster, a.k.a. The Beer Boat, another tradition. I did bring my knitting along for this excursion.

But first, look and see how amazingly green and clear the water was. It went on like this for miles and miles.

And I'll leave you with a knitting-related photo from the I-Swear-I-Thought-I-Got-His-Face-In-The-Picture file. One of the deckhands on the Seablaster was kind enough to pose with my Koigu Jaywalker. Just wanted to share it with my readers:

Looks like you had a great time!

Love the deckhand - who needs a face when he has a torso like that! ;)

Yeah, I agree, who needs the face.

Well, that totally beats the photo of Russell Crowe holding some knitting! What a great vacation that must have been.

I agree with everyone else, face not needed!!! What an awesome picture. That should be a knitting postcard somewhere.

I thought the first pic of the beach was nice, but as I scrolled down it only got better. ;)

Koigu should hire him. Thanks for the picture, I think I am going to put it on my ipod for inspiration.

As a fellow lawyer who knits, I love your blog name! And where can I get one of those "sock holders?" :)

Wow. Blissful from start to finish, it looks like. I love the beach but loathe the crowds, so you were really lucky to find such a deserted spot!

Whoa.
Knitting? There was knitting in that photo? ;)

Great vacation pictures...almost made me homesick for Florida...but not quite...

You know everyone should have a "yarn boy" that looks like that...

Wow I need to take that cruise and I wouldn't even care about the knitting.

We were definately keeping track! We missed you. Looks like you had a great vacation!
I'm writing this comment on an old, sad desktop that refuses to load your pictures. It's killing me reading the comments, I must see that photo of the deckhand. . .

Okay, I got the photos to load, I get it! :) BTW, the last Anonymous comment was me, don't ask, blame the archaic computer!

Is it alright if I put Johnny Depp's face on the deckhand?

Holy Toledo! Who needs a face when the body looks like that? Do you even remember what his face looked like? Great sock photo. As vacations go this one looks like a winner.

I think Johnny Depp's head would look great....

What Koigu? ; )

Yeah, the beach shots were relaxing. The sock is nice, but the model. Ah, yes. Looks like you had a blast.

Hi, Emma, dropped in to check your weblog and love it! I even know the Panhandle - thought it was a wonderful area. Nice and cool and damp here in Ireland after a heatwave of - oh 70 or so. That's frighteningly hot for us, honestly! Do you have to show so many gorgeous yarns? It's constant temptation. I'll trade your deck hand for my wool merchant (see my weblog of a couple of days ago).

Great picture of the Koigu - and I agree - you don't need a head with a body like that.
