A Good Yarn Day

When I got home yesterday, after a very dull meeting in Oklahoma City, I found a stack of packages waiting for me. Ok, two packages, but the contents were so great, it felt like more.

First up, I got the yarn I ordered from etsy seller WhiteWillow.

Merino laceweight for my International Scarf Swap pal:

I was a little afraid of winding 880 yards of laceweight, even with my ball winder and swift, but it wound into the most perfectly delicious little yarn cake with no snags, no tangles, nothing but smooth, gorgeous Neopolitan yarn.

And it is now being turned into this:

I also got the sock yarn I ordered, in "Sweet Tart". This stuff is beautiful!

And as if that wasn't enough, my package from my Lime and Violet Swap Pal arrived. It was stuffed full of treats--chocolate and exotic little goodies. And this funny ostrich pen that I took to my office before I took a photo.

But, best of all, it also contained yarn! And not just any yarn, but Piece of Beauty yarn. Thanks, LnV Pal! You are the best. This yarn is so pretty, I love the colors, and everything else in the package was perfect too.

Definitely a red-letter day for me!

New Stuff!

I had a very knitty birthday this year. From my sister, I got a Yarn Harlot book and a pattern book.

From Eric and Kim:

From myself:

Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in "Spring Frost". Love CTH!!! Very sproingy.

Purchased with a gift certificate from David and Cheryl:

Koigu!

From myself:

Brooklyn Handspun in "Java". This will be my first BH experience. I'm excited!

From my husband:

Regia bamboo and Regia cotton colors.

Also, I finished Odessa (did ya'll even know I was working on Odessa?). I love this pattern. The beads look like little dewdrops. I think I will knit with beads all the time now.

Ok, so I had it with me at work. But I wasn't working on it at work. Unlike some people.
Close-up look at beads:

Great birthday! Oh, and my parents got me a generous gift certificate to Lands End, which is not knitty, but very much appreciated nonetheless!

Updates and Big Newses

Whew! It's been a long time since I posted. There's a lot to catch up on, although not much knitting-wise, which is why I haven't posted in a while. Really, up until a couple of days ago, I hadn't knit anything since before Christmas.

Part of that was because I was feeling a little uninspired, probably because I have been sick since before Christmas. There appears to be a couple of different cold strains going around town, and I have been fortunate enough to catch at least two of them. Yay, me.

And you know how knitting is when you're sick--not very fun. Plus, with the constantly running nose and the sneezing--it wouldn't have been pretty.

But on to the photos! And Christmas knitting stuff!

My wonderful sister-in-law Cheryl got me Boathouse and Vintage Floral, both from Piece of Beauty (love, love, love her yarn!) You see only one skein of Vintage Floral here because my cat Oliver went batshit crazy and completely and utterly destroyed one of the skeins. Bad cat! I am waiting for a replacement.

The two skeins of the red in the photo are Claudia's Handpainted, which I bought for myself. Shut up! They were on sale! 40% off even.
Cheryl also got me the Kristen hat kit from Bea Ellis Knitwear. I picked the colors to go with my winter coat, which is camel. Oooh, it will be so pretty! Cheryl's the best.

As far as knitting-related gifts, I also got Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, the Stich n Bitch 2007 desk calendar, and the Knitting Pattern a Day calendar. Not bad!

I bought myself some Schaefer Anne just the other day. I needed some inspiration. I'm thinking Embossed Leaves for this--very earthy.

The really big news is that my law partner, Eric, (check out his new knitting blog) and I have moved into a real-life office. For the last three years, we have been practicing out of the spare bedroom in my house, partly out of convenience, and partly out of necessity. Some of you may remember from a previous post that the majority of the law I practice is through a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. So, because we do a lot of traveling to cover the entire northeastern corner of the state, we didn't feel an office was strictly necessary.

But another of the contract attorneys with our organization had an office-sharing arrangement he was looking to fill, so the week after Christmas, we moved right in. It's been so nice, and such a change, but in a really good way!

Isn't it pretty? It looks a lot more personalized and put together now, but this gives you a pretty good idea of the new digs. Definitely a change from my spare bedroom with the cat-vomit stains on the floor.

Because my husband and I have been sharing a car for the last three years, we decided it was time to get a second car. Paul always drove the car to his office--because I worked from home and had my partner Eric for any necessary transportation, it worked relatively well for a long time, although I realize now how restricted and trapped I felt sometimes. Having a car is a definite freedom that we tend to take for granted.

And, of course, I whipped up some dishrags for general office use. I just couldn't resist.

And, to celebrate the new office, and my birthday on Wednesday, my darling family sent me a beautiful flower arrangement today, and I love it. It smells so good and there are pink beads sticking out all over it. What's not to love?

Oh! And Elly got a haircut (see previous post for comparison). About time, ya hippie!

This has been quite the long post, and I'm sure no one has read til the end, but I guess that's what happens when you neglect the old blog for such a long time. I vow to do better in the future! But don't hold me to that.
