Scarf Review

***If you haven't entered my Blogiversary contest (see previous post), please be sure to do so. The prize is a gift certificate to The Loopy Ewe!***

I joined the International Scarf Exchange, and started my scarf last night.

I looked at lots of different patterns, but I just couldn't get past the Chevron Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. And since I was too anxious to start to wait for Blue Moon to restock the mediumweight STR or for my LYS to reopen so they could sell me some Koigu, I started with the lightweight STR I had on hand--Lemongrass and Farmhouse.

So, tell me. How's it looking?

Also--FO Alert! I finished this pair of baby cable ribbed socks for my sister-in-law Cheryl. Just for no reason. Well, that's not true. She was COMPLAINING that I hadn't made her a pair yet...

The yarn is STR in Marbles.

Pirate Hats

It's cold and icy here in Oklahoma tonight, and I have been working on the We Call Them Pirates Hat.

Some of you may recall that I attempted to make this hat for my husband, but it came out to small and was gifted instead to my nephew. Which is all well and good, but it meant I owed my husband a hat. I joined the KAL for the pattern, and got started again, this time with a carefully measured gauge swatch at my side.

Ta da!

Particulars:
KnitPicks Merino Style in Coal and Vanilla
Size 7 Addi Turbo
Size 5 KnitPicks needles for lining
Plymouth Wildflowers DK cotton for lining
Started Tuesday, January 9th
Finished Friday January 12th

I love this pattern so much, I decided to make one for me as well. Only this time I started from the lining up to avoid all that fiddly provisional cast-on stuff.

Snow Day!

Holy moley, we had a snowstorm yesterday, ya'll. I'm talking 10.5 inches of snow. In Tulsa.

And it's even weirder because on Tuesday the temperature was near 80 and on Wednesday, it started out in the 70s, then steadily dropped all day long. Yesterday it didn't even make it out of the 20s.

There is some knitting content at the end, but I wanted to share some pictures of the snow.

This is the tree across the street at 10 am yesterday:

And again at 4pm yesterday:

And again from this morning:

Some of you may remember seeing my treeman earlier this year in a rainstorm. Here's how he looked in April:

Well, here's how he did in the snow.

At 10 am:

At 4 pm:

And this morning:

He's so good at illustrating weather conditions!

Elly loves to romp around in the snow, but with the temperature well below freezing, it was time to bring out her sweater:

And a picture of snow-covered branches, just because it's pretty:

And now for the knitting. I have been working on the Lovely Lavender Lace Shawl from Nancie Wiseman's Knitted Shawls, Stoles, and Scarves.

I have been working on it for months, it seems like. With the snow falling outside, I finally finished it, and now it's ready to be wrapped and stored under the Christmas tree. Where the cats will scratch at the ribbon and sleep on it.
